Edward T. Crowe Public School
Edward T. Crowle P.S. was officially opened January 7, 1985. The school is named after one of the first educators in the Markham Area. Dr. Edward T. Crowle was the first Headmaster of the Markham Grammar School, established in 1858. The school mascot is the cougar. The school building is adjacent to a large municipal sports field know in the community as the Crowle Bowl.
Franklin Street Public School
This school has quite the history. In 1846, the Village of Markham built a frame school house on or near the site of Franklin Street P.S. Severely damaged by a fire in 1886, it was replaced by a 4-room brick building in 1886, called Markham Village Public School. In 1906, the school was once again damaged by a fire. In 1951, the building was enlarged and in the 1960's the name was changed to Franklin Street Public School. Between 1949 and 1968, four renovations added nineteen classrooms, a resource centre and a general purpose room. French Immersion was introduced in 1985, forming a dual track school offering a bilingual environment and serves students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 (English and French Immersion).
Fred Varley Public School
It is situated near Richmond Hill and offers French Immersion programs. The school is committed to working with families to support student learning, achievement and well-being. The staff works hard to create safe, caring and inclusive learning environments and opportunities that support student success.
James Robinson Public School
James Robinson P.S. was officially opened in 1956, with additions placed on the original school in 1958, 1967 and 1968. The Community Class area in the school was renovated in August, 2005. James Robinson P.S. is named after James Robinson, who was a local businessman and politician in the Markham area.
Ramer Wood Public School
Ramer Wood P.S. was opened in 1986. The school is named after the Ramer family who first settled in the area. They farmed the land surrounding the school. Our school motto is “Learning and Growing Together”.Our school symbol is a tree, symbolizing growth.Our school team mascot is the Ram.
Reesor Park Public School
Reesor Park Public School was officially opened in 1972, primarily as an open concept school. Additions were made to the original school in 1978 and 1992. Currently, there are 18 classrooms in use, including 14 homerooms, French, Reading Recovery and Special Education classes. Reesor also hosts Grades 1 & 2 French Immersion. We are very fortunate to have a double gymnasium which allows for our physical education program to be maintained while also being able to facilitate presentations, prepare for concerts and operate extra curricular activities. The school is named after an older, well established, original family from the Town of Markham
Roy H. Crosby Public School
Roy H. Crosby P.S. was officially opened in 1964. Additions were placed on the original school in 1966. The school is composed of two quite distinct groups: children that live in the area and a second group living at some distance from the school who travel to school by bus to attend a Grade 4-6 gifted program.
William Armstrong Public School
William Armstrong P.S. was officially opened in 1967. The school was named after Captain Wm. Armstrong (1792-1878), an early Markham resident who was active in many aspects of local development such as roads, agriculture, land and schooling.
Our school motto is “Service to Others.”
A William Armstrong student designed our school mascot in 2002. Our mascot characterizes an athletic creature, which depicts energy and enthusiasm.
Wismer Public School
Wismer Public School officially opened in September of 2003, as the first school in the Wismer Commons subdivision. The school looks forward to working with parents, students and the community to support learning, positive mental health, well-being and inclusion.
Bur Oak Secondary School
Bur Oak Secondary School (BOSS) is a public secondary school in Markham established in 2007.] The school was named after the road which it is built on, which in turn is named for the city of Markham's official tree, the Bur Oak. The school opened in September 2007 with only two grades (9 & 10). The school offers a unique four-year core French program with intensive focus is placed on global French culture, music and history, in addition to grammar and structure. The school also offers a Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program.The school's official colours consist of royal blue, gold, white, and black.
Markham District Secondary School
The year 1952 marked the establishment of the present Markham High School District. In the year 2010, the new school and present building was completed and the old one was torn down and re-purposed as greenspace. The Markham Marauders is the official sports team, best known for football and basketball. Markham District High School is one of the 60 schools remaining in Ontario with a classics department.
