What is Neurodivirgence

When I think of a school, I see a colorful classroom, children laughing, teachers, and a room full of books. When you google the word “school” and click on images you find pictures of classrooms filled with students, children reading, and teachers interacting with their students. However, about 20% of the population will experience something very different. One in five of the children sitting in that colorful classroom will perceive school as a fearful place, where loneliness and confusion will lead them to believe they don’t belong there. You might be wondering, what causes such a shift within the students of a classroom. Well, the difference is that 80% of us, myself included, went to a school designed for our neurotypical brains, while the other 20% of had to try and adapt their neurodivergent brain to a system that was made to ostracize them.
