Ward 2 Schools

Ashton Meadows Public School is named after the beautiful Ashton Meadows Park, located to the west of the school. The school mascot is the majestic Falcon, known for its power and speed. Ashton Meadows P.S. was officially opened in 1997. Prior to being named, the school was known as "Buttonville-North” in honour of its location and in reference to the holding school, Buttonville P.S.

Buttonville P.S. is named after John Button, a landowner of some 300 acres in 1808.  Major Button was a supporter of law and order, who demonstrated his loyalty by leading the Markham Dragoons in the War of 1812. His leadership in both the community and the cavalry earned him the honour of having his family name remembered in the name of Buttonville.

Coledale P.S. is named after Coledale Road where it is located. The school mascot is the cougar, a fast and strong animal.  Coledale P.S. was officially opened in 1988 in the Town of Markham.

The school is named after Ontario's first black Lieutenant Governor General . During his term in office he focused his attention on educational and youth issues. After serving as Lieutenant Governor General for Ontario, Lincoln Alexander was awarded the Order of Ontario, and made a Companion of the Order of Canada.

Nokiidaa Public School (formerly Sir John A. Macdonald Public School) opened its doors for the first time in September 2012. Since then the school has been working tirelessly to provide all of its students with a rich and well-rounded school experience. 

Sir Wilfrid Laurier Public School opened on September 04, 2007. Single track French Immersion programming from Grades Two to Eight are offered.
